About these tests
SAT or ACT? Both tests are accepted at virtually every U.S. four-year college that requires test scores. Most students take whichever test fits their strengths; colleges do not prefer one over the other. Many schools are also test optional, meaning scores are not required at all.
Registration deadlines. Registering by the regular deadline is the cheapest option. Late registration is usually available for a few weeks after the regular deadline for an additional fee, and not every test center offers late registration seats.
Test fees. Fees are paid directly to College Board (SAT) or ACT.org (ACT). My School List does not collect or process test registration payments. Fee waivers are available from each organization for eligible students.
Test centers. Center availability varies by date and location and changes throughout the registration window. The “Find a center near you” button for each test searches the official directory in real time, so what you see is what is actually available the moment you click.
